Figuring out how to design your online business

Writing for Your Website

Running a website may sound easy to some, but for others it is downright intimidating. The thought of writing content, sales pitches and so forth is enough to make many people want to run for the hills. Fortunately, it is not as hard as many people think, and there are great ebooks out there to help you learn how to do it right.

The first one I will recommend is called Make Your Content PRESell. This is a very affordable ebook on the basics of writing content to encourage people to buy from you. Writing to sell isn't like writing for school. You need to be yourself and write on a more friendly level than they taught you in school. In fact, it's much like talking to good friends.

This is one of several ebooks from Ken Evoy of SiteSell. You may also be interested in other titles that relate to your business. Take a look at their free ebooks that will help you to build just about any online business.

Much of the advice you will see will boil down to "just start writing" and it really can be that simple. Write out your sales page, content or something else for your website, then have someone else read and critique it or just walk away and critique it yourself in a day or two. You might decide that this writing stuff is not so difficult.

Of course, not everyone is a great writer even for their own website. You can always hire someone else to do the work for you. There are plenty of writers out there looking for work at sites such as eBay, Elance and Guru. In many cases, such freelancers will be quite affordable.

Hiring someone else to write for you can pay off quite well. A good copywriter can make visitors want your product; a bad one can chase them away. Review any potential copywriter's portfolio carefully and decide if they have sold you. If they can't interest you in their services, how will they interest your customers?
