Poor Traffic Generators
There are ways to get lots of traffic without all the effort that the rest of these ideas take, but they generally are very low benefit. In addition, they may dilute your brand, make you appear to be of poor quality, and cause people to dislike your site (remember what I said earlier about popups?). But, people will continue to try anything to get traffic, so I will cover the topic here.
The first is to simply buy the traffic. You can get targeted traffic, which improves the odds, but many of these sites simply pop your site up under a site they have a deal with. Don't expect great results from such a program, no matter what stats the sales site may show you about converting 0.1% of 10,000 visitors at $10 each. your conversion rate may be far, far lower, or even nonexistent. It's not just a numbers game, it's a quality of visitors game, and don't let anyone tell you differently. If you do experiment with this one, research the company, and try to find a good one.
Tricks to watch out for include how they send the traffic to you. Are you just a small popup or full size? Are you getting 24-hour unique IP traffic? Some use expired domain names, which may get better results than popups, although I have not yet seen any statistics in this area. Make sure they are not using spam, especially in light of the current legislation.
Next, you could join several traffic exchanges. Please note, I do not suggest joining only one if you go this way. This is because the only way to get any sort of decent traffic from a traffic exchange is through building your downline. There are programs to help you with this that you can join, such as LifeStyle Network . It WILL take you months of regular surfing to build any sort of a downline, so don't expect immediate results. The basic premise is that you surf and have your credits used to show your downline-building page until you have built a decent enough downline to keep you going with minimal effort. This will take time, and remember, this will be completely untargeted traffic, so don't expect great results. This is also extremely time-consuming. Many sites suggest using a browser called Crazy Browser, but I have found that the current version of Netscape also offers tabs, so that while you only have one window open, you can have several sites open, each on its own tab, and it lets you save the group of tabs, so if you already have Netscape, there is no need to download anything else.
Finally, yes, there are safelists out there. Safe from spam complaints? Yes, that is the idea. Effective? Not so much so. There aren't many targeted safelists out there, but if you can find one targeted towards your customers, it may be more worth your while than the average safelist. As an example, I belong to a safelist which targets WAHMs. It gets a far better response than other safelists for me, but still, the response is nothing to brag about. If you really need to take a it's from The Mom Shack .
What about FFAs?
Don't even bother, unless you want lots of spam in your inbox. FFAs benefit their owners far more than the people posting there. By posting to one, you agree to let the owner email you and your email may be harvested as well. Additionally, your ad will probably appear for only a very brief time on busy FFA pages, and excessive use of FFAs may severely damage your search engine ranking.
