Advertising in Newsletters
Many, possibly most, ezines and newsletters accept advertising. This can be a very affordable solution to getting your name out there. There are several types of newsletter ad: Solo, top, middle and classified.
Solo ads are sent out, well, solo. There is no other advertising with them, and they are not sent out as a part of the newsletter. This costs more than the others, but you can be certain that there is nothing detracting from your message. Of course, recipients may simply delete these unread. I have seen claims, however, that solo ads are as much as 75% more effective than other ads, since there is only one message. Is this hype? I don't know. The best advice I can offer is for you to track your ads and determine for yourself what is most effective.
Top ads are placed at the top of the newsletter, before anything else. As with the rest of these, you want to be certain that the newsletter has more than just advertising in it, or your ad will be lost in the clutter. Not a good way to get attention. There may also be middle ads, bottom ads and classified ads. Take a look at how the advertising is presented in a given ezine before deciding if you want to advertise in it, as well as the content of the ezine. If you feel overwhelmed by ads in the ezine, you can be all but certain that your ad would not get read.
You can get very cheap advertising at sites such as 2 Bucks an Ad. This is a site which has newsletters grouped together, and you buy advertising from the group. The name may be a bit confusing, because you don't pay $2 to run an ad. The name is based on the fact that when they started, it averaged $2 per newsletter for your ad to run. They have more newsletters in most groups now, so the price may be lower. You have to agree to subscribe to each of the newsletters, and stay until your ad runs, so try to choose ones you will enjoy. These newsletters have quite a bit of advertising in most cases, but it's an affordable way to start advertising.
